A pure cotton Begampuri saree in crisp white, edged with a deep black ikat border that finishes in a sharp temple-tip zigzag, and scattered with small black star motifs.

Full Product Description

There is a quiet confidence to white and black that nothing else quite matches. This Begampuri saree, handwoven on pit looms in Hooghly's weaving belt, is built entirely on that contrast.

The body is a clean off-white handloom cotton, fine and breathable, dotted at intervals with small woven star butis in black — placed sparsely across the field and gathered more closely along the inner border, so the eye moves naturally toward the pleats.

The border is the statement. A broad panel of deep black carries ikat motifs in wine, teal and warm ochre, the colours blurring softly into each other the way only true resist-dyed yarn does. Where the black meets the white, it breaks into a crisp temple-tip zigzag — hand-controlled, sharp, and unmistakably Bengal.

The pallu opens out into alternating bands of black, grey and white stripes, punctuated by ikat panels and a fine woven chain motif running between them. Turned over the shoulder, it reads almost like a woven textile sampler.

It is an easy saree to wear. Light enough for a full working day, graphic enough for an evening event, and versatile with blouses — gold tissue for festive, plain black or wine for office, deep red for something sharper.

Because it is handwoven, small variations in weave density and motif placement are natural. They are the mark of a loom, not a flaw.
